How I Bought My Second Home. When your first home buying experience is full of bad memories, it can be a little difficult to keep a positive mindset the second time. My wife and I bought our first house when we were in our mid-twenties. After being married for 5 years, we decided it was time to take our next big step.
So, we moved out of the apartment we were renting and got in touch with a local real estate agent, whom one of my colleagues had recommended. Worst decision of my life I ever made! Not only was this agent rude but he kept overlooking our demands. He showed us houses that were in our budget but on the run-down side. After two months of searching, we finally found a house, which we didn’t like much but since it was in a good neighborhood, we decided to buy it.
That’s when the other nightmare ensued. Our agent left us high and dry. He handed me a couple of documents and told me where I needed to file them. He was of no help at all! Fast forward to the closing date, when we asked him to negotiate on our behalf, he refused and said that our demands will not be met. Later, I found out that he was working as a seller agent too, which is probably why he didn’t pay any attention to our demands.
The Real Estate Agent From Heaven
In this dwindling market, we didn’t have any hope of finding an Orlando realtor who would help us find our dream house because the first one certainly did not. I had learned my lesson and this time, I did my research. After finagling three estate agents, I met with them and assessed them based on how interested they were in getting me what I wanted.
There was a clear winner and we hired the Lake Mary realtor. To say he was a gem would be an understatement. He showed us plenty of listings, all of which contained most of the major features we were looking for. After touring multiple houses, he invited us to his office to get feedback on how we were doing. In just a week, we had chosen the house we wanted and we told him.
He then directed us to a couple of lenders for the mortgage, which was extremely helpful. Since my credit score was in the excellent category, we got great terms. The agent then came along for the contract signing and made sure that there were no hidden clauses in it. Not only did he help us till the closing but he also called us after that to ask if there was any problem with the house. He kept in touch with us for a month to make sure that no repairs popped up.
