So, you’re moving to another state, but you have to sell your house before you can go. In the process, you may have realized your yard is not looking its best. An ugly yard is a definite hindrance to selling your home. With that in mind here is how to get your yard ready to sell your house.
Clean it Up
If it’s been a few years, your front and back yards probably require a yard clean-up; it means a number of things need to be done. You will need to rent a roll-off dumpster to be able to clean up your yard thoroughly. Start with the basics. Loose branches and limbs in your yard need to be picked up and disposed of in the dumpster. Leaves need to be raked, bagged, and thrown away. If your grass has grown too tall, it will need to be mowed. First, ensure any items such as toys or sports equipment are picked up so the mower will not strike them.
Small trees and shrubs will need to be pruned to make them more appealing to the eye. In some cases, larger trees will need to have limbs cut back from over the roof as this will be an issue with insurance companies. If any of your trees are less than five feet from your house, an insurance company will most likely require them to be cut down. Many house shoppers are aware of that fact and will not buy a house where the trees are too close.
Get Rid of Dilapidated Sheds
The shed in your backyard may have been accumulating assorted junk for years, possibly decades. Maybe you inherited a home from a relative who put the shed up in the 1970s, and you have no clue what is inside it, or how long it has been there. Whatever the reason for your old beat-up shed still standing, it won’t help to sell your home and needs to be removed.
First, examine the exterior of the shed to make sure that it is safe to enter. If the roof is sagging, a wall is leaning in, or any visible signs that the shed will collapse, the shed needs to be taken down before removing the contents. Be sure there is no wildlife present in your shed. When you have ensured, there are no mammals or insects its time to clean out the items from the shed and dispose of them in your dumpster.
Next, assemble the requisite tools to take down your shed and go to work. Be sure to wear safety goggles and gloves. If the shed is made of wood, stone, or cinder block, it probably will have to be demolished. You can use sledgehammers to do the job or bring in heavy equipment for demolition. The foundation, if it exists, will need to be dealt with similarly.
Be sure your shed isn’t salvageable, a clean shed with a fresh coat of paint could enhance your house’s chance of being sold.
Plant Flowers
Planting annuals that are hearty in any weather will beautify your yard and bolster your chances of selling your house.
